modified studer headphone + line out module (being developed)
a001 is based on original and perfectly working Studer headphone amplifiers salvaged from the electronics dumpster of a large broadcasting corporation. A bit of modification work has been done to make them applicable for modular synth use.
a001 is a simple module, a three input (1 stereo, 1 mono) amplifier/attenuator with summed outputs for headphones and line levels. Plug in a set headphones and rock out without waking up the kids, special someone, dog and/or cat, or use the line level outputs to interface with external equipment.
a001 is not a voltage controlled anything... although I originally intended to exploit the logic/pseudo voltage control over muting provided on the the boards, I found, through testing, that the electronic switches used have two flaws that make them unsuitable for modular synths; 1. the logic 0/mute state does not mute the signals completely, and 2. switching generates loud pops.
1 x Left in, 3.5mm
1 x Right in, 3.5mm
1 x Mono in, 3.5mm
1 x Stereo headphone out, 6.3mm
1 x Left line level out, 6.3mm
1 x Right line level out, 6.3mm
1 x Stereo pot, for amplification/attenuation of left and right inputs
1 x Mono pot, for amplification/attenuation of mono input
1 x Stereo pot, for line level output
Both +12V and +15V supplies will work.
Actually anything from +9V to +24V is OK.
@ max amplification into 60Ω headphones AND 10kΩ line input:
approx. 25mA.
a001 is 125mm deep and thus won't fit inside all types of cabinets. So, make sure your cabinet has got what it takes before you even starting to think about this module.
I need two persons to help testing out the a001 module before its release. If you want to help out, then please contact me at
